Community advocate and Atlanta talk radio host Rashad Richey will be the keynote speaker during Fulton CASA’s new volunteer swearing-in ceremony on June 25 at the Romae T. Powell Juvenile Justice Center in Atlanta.
Although the event will mark the first time Richey will have spoken at one of the organization’s swearing-in ceremonies, representatives from the Atlanta-based nonprofit have appeared on Richey’s show, “Real Talk with Rashad Richey” on 1380 AM WAOK-CBS Radio to promote its mission to train and support community volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children in foster care.
Katina Hawkins, Community Development Manager at Fulton CASA, said, “Rashad is no stranger to the juvenile justice system so he gets it! He understands that without someone on their side, these children will linger in foster care and will be less likely to find permanent, loving homes. We are excited to have Rashad share his unique insights and inspirational story with our new volunteers and their families.”
The event will serve as a graduation ceremony for community members who recently completed the required 40-hour training class. Volunteers who completed the training will be sworn in by a Fulton County Juvenile Court Judge and receive their first case as advocates with the legal authority to advocate for the best interests of the children to whom they are assigned.
Hawkins said, “The swearing-in ceremony is the first of many milestones for our volunteers who will advocate for child victims to ensure that they have access to the resources needed and that they will remain at the forefront of court proceedings until they find a safe, permanent home.”
A live broadcast of the ceremony will be streamed via Meerkat starting at 6 p.m. Thursday evening. A link to the live stream will be published Thursday morning on FultonCASA’s Facebook, Twitter and Meerkat accounts.
