~Fulton County CASA, Inc.~

Fulton County CASA (FCCASA) is a Georgia 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that was started as a court-based program in 1995 to provide a voice for the best interests of abused and neglected children involved in deprivation proceedings in Fulton County Juvenile Court.

Fulton County CASA began under the leadership of then Chief Judge Glenda Hatchett and continues to expand with the support of Chief Judge Sanford Jones and Judge Belinda Edwards.  FCCASA's mission is to provide trained, supervised volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children.  These volunteers speak for the best interests of these children in Fulton County.  Volunteers provide advocacy services and assist with identifying and matching a comprehensive array of appropriate services for the children and their families.

 The Need......

In Fulton County 2005:
  • 7,174 incidents of abuse and neglect were reported, averaging 20 per day.
  • 2,817 children were placed in the custody of the Deptartment of Family and Children Services, 40% were under the age of 7.
  • Over 3000 children involved in deprivation proceedings at the Fulton County Juvenile Court.
  • Two children died as a result of abuse and neglect.

The Work Behind the Need....
 Fulton County CASA 2005:
  • 17,760 documented hours were spent by our volunteers giving voice to deprived children.
  • 100 active volunteers served 439 children
  • 70 new volunteers joined our family
  • Unfortunately, 85% of our children did not receive CASA support due to staff and budget limitations.
